How to communication between operating stations, different sites and locations? Some things to consider are busy operators, operators using headphones/microphones, and operators away from their position. Inter-station Communication Logging is another factor to consider for archival and historical purposes. It is important to note that no outside network can be involved in this process.

One method is to use phones. Which is great, until you try calling an operator who is in the middle of passing an NTS formatted message. Very little call logging is available, and an operator would often be transcribing information from the phone call to a piece of paper

Another proposed method is IRC. Nice thing about this is the ability to send a message and the recipient respond to it at their convenience. An IRC server could be installed on BCWARN and each position would require a computer with an IRC client connected to the internal IRC server. Single to Multiple recipients is also a capability of IRC, as well as private messages between two operators.

Another proposed method is Instant Messaging. Perhaps a Jabber server installed on the BCWARN network with IM clients pointing to the internal server would suffice. A multi-platform (client side) solution is a requirement. Managing contacts is another potential issue
